Arena of Valor Wiki

Qi, The Brawler, is the 87th Hero in the game Arena of Valor, classified in the categories of warrior and assassin. She is a contact hero with excellent continuous damage, regeneration thanks to her passive, and crowd control. Usually played as a slayer laner or jungler, she can easily trade with her opponent or farm in the jungle unscathed, and her level 4 allows her to secure a kill thanks to the execute damage of the second part of Dragon's bane.

Mostly based on her short-range mobility with Meteoroid and the second part of Dragon's bane, she can farm or pressure her enemy with the damage and the armor reduction of Mountain shaker. In fight, she can provide control with Meteoroid and Dragon's bane, weaken enemies with Mountain shaker and finish them off with the second instance of Dragon's bane.

"Where there is no way, there is a way. What is infinite, is finite. Such is the way of the martial artist. Such is the way of Ch'i."

It was a cold and rainy day. Drenched laborers gathered in front of the dojo with hammers and crowbars in hand, discussing how to remove the two inscribed plaques embedded deep inside the doorpost. The boss wanted everything taken away except the brick walls and the people. The plaques were not part of the walls, but they were so deeply embedded inside the stone doorposts that the workers were at their wits' end. Qi was standing under the eaves, watching all this.

"My grandfather punched it in with the power of Ch'i. Your tools are no good." Finally, she pushed aside the workers and stood in front of the doorposts, barely concealing her displeasure. She bent her knees lightly, raised her palm, and struck the pillars one after the other. The plaques flew out from inside the stonework before anybody even realized what happened."Not bad, girl!" Words of praise came from the watching workers.

"Much good it does, if it can't keep the dojo open..." someone whispered. Jealousy, or something else? Qi did not know, Qi did not care. In the rain, she turned around and walked into her house. There was nothing left in the empty house, not even a stool to sit down on, but it was still her home, where she was born, where she grew up, where she learned everything she knew about the martial arts. The Dragon Kingdom is the home of martial arts, and Qi's family, the Sungming clan, was one of its most illustrious practitioners - once upon a time. But the family had long been in decline, dwindling in numbers and skill. Qi is the last of her line.

Perhaps the bloodline wanted to go out in a blaze of glory, for Qi showed incredible talent for martial arts from a young age. Her father was once a respectable martial artist himself, but injury and illness had robbed him of his prowess, and he trained Qi relentlessly, desperate to preserve the family's legacy in its sole remaining heir. Qi's mother left, angry at her husband's treatment of their daughter, and so did the few students the dojo had, after it became clear that their master had become a shadow of his former self. At last only father and daughter were left in an empty dojo, and Qi's father placed all his hopes on her. Qi did not fail him, becoming a martial artist who need not be ashamed in the proud company of her ancestors. But it came at a price - her father spent all the money he had, making sure that Qi had the best nourishment possible and never wanted for medicine when she was injured, leaving none for the treatment of his own illness.

When her father fell ill, Qi took over as master of the Dojo. But she did not heed her father's commands to find students and restore the glory of the dojo, but pawned the dojo's deed to buy medicine for her father. Furious at this, her father refused to speak to her for days; Qi said nothing, continuing to take care of her father as she had, diligently keeping up with her training in between. "Silly girl, wasting time and money on a dying old man!"

"Yes, yes. Now open your mouth and drink your medicine." Qi simply held up the spoon until her father relented and drank up.

"Yuck, this bitter's not gonna do me any good, you know that. Why won't you just let me die, for Dragon's sake?"

"For as long as I can remember I've been training with you. For twelve long years we have been master and student, more than we have been father and daughter. I want to make up for lost time now that I'm in charge. I don't know how much time you have left, so I want to make the most of it."

"Silly, silly girl...I'm sorry, Qi, I'm so sorry..." Tears ran down her father's cheeks." There's nothing to be sorry about. You taught me the techniques of our ancestors, all that I need to survive in the world. Don't say anything - just rest. I won't let my skills get rusty, and I won't let the dojo go under."

"Look at you, just like your silly old man when he was young." Qi's father laughed. The more he laughed, the more Qi's heart ached.

It rained the day her father died too. He lay on his bed, little more than skin and bones, too weak to even cough, but with his last strength he grasped Qi's hand with his own and whispered to her, "Bring glory back to the family...let Sungming's name be known far and wide..."

With reddened eyes Qi nodded, holding back tears. She was a warrior now, and a warrior never lies. Her father could die in peace.

Funeral arrangements were only half done when the creditors came to claim the dojo. Qi went out into the middle of the training hall and crushed the floor tiles beneath her feet with one casual step. The collectors left. But money owed was money owed, and Qi's pride did not allow her to default on it by force. All she wanted was to keep the house, and the name of Sungming Dojo.

"Take everything you care to and set whatever price you see fit. When my name is made and the dojo is back on its feet, I'll pay back the rest - with interest."

The manager of the pawnshop saw that Qi had talent and put in a good word with the owner, who agreed to give her a three-year extension. Qi had averted the crisis at hand, and she knew what she should do next. Qi's stomach rumbled. A warrior needs to eat, and she had not eaten for days.

"First things first. Got to find something to eat." She patted her stomach lightly and kicked open her room door. "Then I go and find that Lu Bu and see who's the better fighter!"

This was the path that her ancestor Sungming had walked - a man of humble beginnings, who made his name with his iron fists. But his descendants could not follow in his footsteps, and the family dojo went into decline.

But Qi is the greatest martial artist to come from her line since the great Sungming himself. And she is ready to challenge the mighty heroes of the world.

"I am my Ch'i, my Ch'i with me."

Protection aura

Qi gains a stack of Aura when she uses her abilities, stacking up to 3 times. Each stack increases her armor by 30 (+5/level) for 5 seconds.

When abilities hit enemies, she attacks twice as fast for her next 2 normal attacks and deals additional 30 (+5/level) (+25% of AD) physical damage while restoring 100 (+25/level) HP.

Enhanced attacks can be storedup to 4 times.

The passive of Qi is her main sustainability tool. Every auto-attack will increase Qi's armor and heal her. In fight, you will try to hit as many stacks as you can to burst down the enemy, whereas in lane or in the jungle you will use this passive to keep regenerating and deal continuous damage without loss of value.

  • The remaining stacks of enhanced attacks are displayed in the bar under the health bar of Qi
  • As the attack speed boost will also quicken the next attack, attacking three times between each use of skills in the jungle is optimal, rather than attacking twice before using another skill
  • Don't forget to use auto-attack between each skill as you farm, as they will have more damage and heal you. Thanks to the stacks, you can choose to keep these stacks for later in the fight, and deal more damage after Mountain shaker.

Qi dashes forward, dealing 300(+55% of AD) physical damage to enemies along the path and knocking them flying for 0.5 seconds. Cooldown 7 seconds
Mana cost 45 mana
Level 1 2 3 4 5 6
Base damage 300 375 450 525 600 675

The first skill of Qi is her main mobility tool. This short dash deals a bit of damage, knocks up the enemy and triggers Qi's passive.

  • The range of the dash isn't huge, but you must hit it to perform a good engage. Remember that you don't need to dash through the enemy, only the tip of the skill can touch an enemy hero and he will be knocked up.
  • The crowd control and mobility given by this skill makes it a great combo tool, that can ensure Mountain shaker's success or lead to an easy hit with Dragon's bane.

Mountain shaker

Qi attacks her target continuously, with each hit dealing 120 (+25% of AD) physical damage, also reducing the target’s armor by 15 for 5 seconds, stacking up to 5 times.

Her final attack also reduces the target's movement speed by 50% for 1 second.

Cooldown 10 seconds
Mana cost 60 mana
Level 1 2 3 4 5 6
Base damage 120 150 180 210 240 270
Cooldown 10 9.6 9.2 8.8 8.4 8
Armor reduction 15 20 25 30 35 40

The second skill of Qi is her main damage tool, attacking over time by ticks in an area and weakening the enemy by decreasing their armor. Most of the time, this skill is the fist picked level 1, allowing Qi to easily farm and pressure her opponent.

  • Be wary to place the target in the center of the AoE, in order to make your follow-up attacks much more easy.
  • If the target's getting out of the range, or you need to heal yourself using Protection aura, taking any other action or if you get hit by a hard CC. This can also be useful if you need to quickly regenerate in the jungle, using just a short moment this skill only to trigger your passive.
  • Don't forget that the more the enemies are hit by this skill, the more damage they will take !

Dragon's bane

Qi attacks the front, dealing 300 (+45% of AD) physical damage and knocking back her target.

If the target is hit, Qi can trigger the second phase of Dragon's bane after 3 seconds :

Charges in the target direction and deals 200 (+25% of AD) (+15% of the target's lost HP) physical damage to enemies in her path.

If the target is knocked into another unit, they'll take the same amount of physical damage and be knocked back for 0.5 seconds.

If the target is knocked into another terrain, it takes an additional 100 (+10% of AD) physical damage and is stunned for 1.5 seconds, and Qi's Mountain shaker's cooldown will be immediately refreshed.

Cooldown 35 seconds
Mana cost 100 mana
Level 1 2 3
Base damage 300 450 600
Clash damage 100 150 200
Cooldown 35 30 25

The ultimate skill of Qi is a powerful general stun, great in both teamfights and duels. The first phase can stun multiple ennemies, making them an easy prey for your Mountain shaker. The second phase is a powerful executing move, that can reposition you in the fight as well.

  • Remember, the second phase is a finisher : the less HP the enemy has, the more damage they will take.
  • The first phase hitbox also hits slighly behind Qi : remember this when you follow up Meteoroid with this skill.
  • The ruins of towers still count as terrain, and you can trigger the bonus if you knock someone in these.
  • Be wary of the width of this ultimate, as the hitbox of the first move is much larger than Qi and can hit enemies on her sides.
  • When you use Qi’s ultimate to fend off the enemy, be aware of your position as well as the enemy’s. This will ensure that the enemy is pushed back to an ideal location where allies can finish them off.

Slayer lane[]

Qi as a slayer lane will mostly rely on her regeneration to pressure the enemy with safe trades. Mountain shaker is almost every time your first skill, as it will be your tool to farm and keep your enemy away from its own farm. Qi can gank, but before level 4 it wil be hard to succeed on the midlane, because of the short range of your Meteoroid. If you're confident enough, you can contest the enemy jungler or fight for the Spirit Sentinel. Once you get to level 4, you can finish off the enemy slayer lane or go for aggressive ganks or contests, as you will likely have an advantage in duel against most squishy heroes. Pay attention to your environment as you fight, to succeed in pushing the enemy on a wall with your ultimate Dragon's bane.

As a jungler, Qi can farm really quickly and get to level 4 to gank side lanes. Invading the enemy jungle is hard because of your lack of mobility or damage level 1, but is possible with good coordination. Pay great attention to the lanes you gank to make sure you will get a kill, as setting up your Dragon's bane will be the hardest part in succeding. Qi's durability and continuous damage make her great at solo-ing objectives, such as the Spirit Sentinel, the The Abyssal Dragon Kraydus or The Dark Slayer. Qi can, with a few kills and items, kill solely The Dark Slayer by herself by its first spawn 7 minutes into the game, but keep in mind doing so is extremely dangerous for your team and will require coordination - or the wiping of the whole enemy team beforehand.

Ganks and teamfights[]

Most of the time, Qi will use the same combination of abilities in fights :

  • Engage by using Meteoroid.
  • Stun enemies with Dragon's bane (can be inverted with the next step)
  • Follow up with Mountain shaker to weaken the enemies and deal damage
  • Deal more damage thanks to your passive, and regenerate so
  • Finish off an enemy or reposition yourself with Dragon's bane's second instance

Qi Biography Born in the Land of Dragons, Qi displayed incredible talent for martial arts from a very young age. Her father trained her in her family's traditional Sungming school of martial arts, even as his own health declined. After her father passed away, Qi sold everything that was not tied down in their dojo to pay off their creditors, and left on a long journey across Athanor, seeking battle with the strong to make her name and rebuild the fame of her dojo, foremost of which was Lu bu, the Great Warlord. For all her martial arts skills, however, Qi's ability to find her way is beyond pathetic., and she has traveled beyond the borders of the Land of Dragons through the Desert of Death, and into unfamiliar lands. Still, she has never forgotten her goal of fighting the strong, and helping those in need.
Relationship In the relationship minigame, the "Imaginary rival" of Qi is Lu bu.
Anecdote 1 : Warrior This was it. The moment that she had been waiting for. The long years of training, hard work, coming to a head.

The Dragon Child, the Eternal Champion, the Great Warlord...Qi felt no fear as she faced the men known by such titles, only excitement.

"Master Lu Bu! I am Qi, 13th-generation of the Sungming school. I seek a duel!" She saluted, and Lu Bu returned the gesture. He was the more established warrior, so Qi had the [missing, help us by contributing to this page !]

Though Lu Bu stood unmoving, Qi could feel his aura even from a fair distance away. The knees of a lesser fighter would already have buckled under the pressure. As skilled as Qi was, she felt her pulse quicken and her breathing lose consistency No-she could not let herself lose the fight before it began. Qi forced herself to focus, and aimed for Lu Bu's head with an open palm.

Without moving his feet, Lu Bu pushed forward, and met Qi's powerful attack head-on. Qi felt her hands go numb. The shock was like being hit with a sledgehammer, and it was all she could do to avoid falling backwards.

Rather than stand her ground and open herself up to further attacks, Qi took a step backwards, avoiding the brunt of the force. No sooner had she found her footing that she was on the attack again, a flurry of five strikes against five different weak points on her opponent's body, each attack more [missing, help us by contributing to this page !] blocking all five attacks with his left arm, and Qi felt like the waves dashing upon an unmovable boulder.

The exchange was over in an instant, but it felt like hours for Qi. She barely had the time to catch her breath when she saw a hand headed for her head, and she raised her arms to quard her face instinctively, only for the hand to grab her by the collar and lift her up from the ground.

Qi felt her face burn with shame. This was no duel - it was little more than an adult toying with a child. The heritage of her martial arts, passed down through so many generations, meant nothing to his opponent.

Anger boiled within Qi, then she felt something grow within her, a power different from the ch'i that she was trained in something deeper and more potent - a place that can only be reached by a true master, someone who has gained complete mastery over their art.

In that instant Qi's veins, muscles and bones were filled with strength and she grabbed Lu Bu's arm with both hands Energy flowed through her hands and into Lu Bu's body, and for the first time his impassive face showed signs of emotion. As Lu Bu released Qi, she focused the power in her hands, and struck out with the fury of dragons. Lu Bu raised his arms before his chest to block the attack, but Qi's blow carried such force that he was forced to take several steps back.

Qi, however, was in no position to take advantage. She was not yet ready to wield the power that she unleashed for the briefest of moments. Tried as she did, she could not hold back the nausea, and spat out a mouthful of blood.

"Let us leave it at that for today," said Lu Bu, and he turned away to leave.

"Tha...thank you, Master Lu Bu," replied Qi meekly. Her legs failed her, and she sat down weakly on the ground.
